McCuan Civil Liberty

Liberty is a 2005 American TB gelding, ridden by Kate Chadderton. Currently competing at Preliminary Level, Liberty has qualified for a 1-star and the AEC's.

Patrick McCuan, Owner

Visionary builder and developer, Patrick McCuan founded McCuan Homes in 1977 after a diverse career in college academia with degrees from Baylor and the Universities of Louisville, Southern Seminary, and Maryland.

Following his success in the Columbia, Maryland homebuilding market, Patrick turned his attention to commercial development in 1980 and has gone on to a career of “firsts” under the corporate banner of MDG Companies.

Today he continues to seek out new “firsts” in the real estate market while continuing his residential and commercial activities as well as real estate management, multifaceted real estate investment, automotive, and horse farms.

In addition to Sunset Hill, Patrick’s equine –related projects include:

The Patrick and Jill McCuan Center for Equine Studies at Otterbein College. The McCuan’s daughter Megan attended Otterbein graduating in 2009. Megan is an avid horseback rider and competed her horse Doc in dressage.

Sponsor of the $40,000 Columbia Classic Grand Prix horse show benefiting the Howard County Community College. The McCuan’s also donated the backing for the college’s Administration Building, the Jill and Patrick McCuan Hall.

Patrick is married to Jill Thomas McCuan and they have two daughters. They reside in Glenwood, Maryland.

Kate comes to Maryland from Queensland, Australia, and competes and trains horses and riders in the discipline of eventing, stadium jumping, and dressage. She has achieved success at 3-star/World Cup eventing; Grand Prix jumpers; and Prix St. George dressage.

Kate currently competes Grand Prix jumpers with McCuan Mario and Intermediate Level eventing with Collection Pass (aka Cole), owned by Rege Dvorsky, et al. She and Cole will finish the year at Advanced. She and Cole recently completed the CCI 2-Star at Bromont in Canada.

SOLD - Mario was a gift to everyone at Sunset Hill and he will be greatly missed. Watch for Mario in the International Jumper Ring!

Mario was proudly owned by Jill and Patrick McCuan and ridden by Australian 3-star event rider Kate Chadderton.

Mario is Dutch Warmblood/English TB cross. He already has an extensive passport as he was bred in Spain, competed as a jumper in Scotland, then moved to the United States and started his eventing career with Jan Byyny early in 2008. Mario earned several top finishes through the Preliminary Level with Kate Chadderton up and has made a name for himself with his exuberant jumping style.

Although he had a successful eventing career, qualifying for the American Eventing Championships in 2009, Mario was destined to be a jumper. Mario is currently competing successfully at Grand Prix with eventer Kate Chadderton in the saddle.

McCuan Rendezvous

Ronnie is the latest addition to Jill and Patrick McCuan's team of horses. Ronnie is a 2006 American TB gelding. He is currently competing at Novice, with Training Level in his near future.
